This Acanthus Butterfly Wall Plaque by Carruth Studio is an original design by sculptor George Carruth. It's hand-cast in the USA from solid stone with an aged finish. The elegant butterfly, surrounded by flowers, evokes a sense of peace and a connection with nature. The "acanthus" is an ornament carved into stone to resemble leaves from the Mediterranean species of the Acanthus genus of plants, which have deeply cut leaves. This motif is found in Ancient Greek architecture in the capitals of the Corinthian and Composite orders.
This butterfly wall décor makes a beautiful gift, and is a charming accent for any garden, deck or sunroom. Slightly larger than most plaques, this butterfly wall art can be displayed hanging or resting in a flowerbed or lawn. Arrives gift boxed.
Originally a sculptor for American Greetings Cards, in his late 20s George Carruth began carving images on stones with basic hand tools as a way to enjoy the outdoors and practice his sculpting techniques. His wife Deborah recognized the garden stones' beauty and encouraged George to enter art exhibits to display his one-of-a-kind art. And that's how it all started! George and his wife launched Carruth Studio in 1983 once they built off George's success at art shows around the U.S. George's strong desire to "plant a smile in your garden" continues today at their retail studio outlet in Waterville, Ohio.
