Madame Butterfly Wall Plaque by Carruth Studio
This elegant Madame Butterfly Wall Plaque by Carruth Studio will look lovely in the garden, hung on stake or tree, or perhaps on the wall of a sunroom or porch. Hand-cast in stone from an original sculpture by George Carruth, her ornate wings, elaborate headband, and richly detailed gown were inspired by drawings from the Art Nouveau era, a style popular around 1900.
While it became common to depict fairies with wings in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, fairies in older folklore typically flew through the use of magic and did not have wings. These days, most fairies are imagined as winged beings, having either small insect wings or much larger butterfly wings like the ones on this butterfly fairy wall plaque.
Artist George Carruth began his career as a sculptor for American Greeting Cards, but he soon started having success selling his original works at art shows across the country. George and his wife, Deborah, launched Carruth Studio in 1983 and have been sharing George's art with the world ever since.
Hang this delightful butterfly fairy plaque indoors or out; the stone material is highly weather resistant, and the imbedded hanging wire is the same wire used on the space shuttle. Virtually unbreakable.
