This set of 2 miniature celestial and terrestrial Globe Ornaments capture the Earth and Heavens as envisioned by Dutch cartographer Gerardus Mercator in the 16th Century. In cooperation with the Royal Library in Bruxelles, Mercatur's original copperplates are reprinted and applied by hand to 3" diameter ornaments with brass finials
Each ornament comes with a brown satin hanging ribbon, and the set is beautifully gift-boxed for a classic presentation. Constructed with paper gores (triangular pieces of paper or fabric) in the same fashion as full size globes, the hand-applied charts perfectly reproduce the original engraved charts from 1541.
