- Hand-formed elephant sculpture
- Papier mâché base
- Wrapped in a patchwork of vintage sari fabric remnants
- Different fabric combinations ensure no two will be exactly the same
Our Vintage Sari Elephant Sculpture is a lovely and unusual piece to add to your décor. Indian artisans hand-form the base sculpture from papier mâché to create a friendly elephant, his trunk raised in salute. The base sculpture is then carefully wrapped in a hand-stitched patchwork of exquisite vintage sari remnants, creating a colorful, one-of-a-kind art piece.
As one would expect, this handcrafted Indian art piece portrays an Asian or Indian elephant. Smaller than their African cousins, Asian elephants are also distinguished by having smaller ears and a single, flexible "finger" at the end of the trunk, compared to a pair of these fleshy lobes at the tip of an African elephant's trunk. This vintage sari-wrapped elephant sculpture is also clearly a male, as female Asian elephants rarely have tusks, and when they do, they are extremely small and hardly noticeable.
Sure to bring a smile to your guests' faces, this colorful miniature pachyderm will look delightful striding across a mantel or coffee table. As each example is completely handmade, using a different combination of fabrics each time, your elephant is guaranteed to be unlike any other.
