Our St. George The Dragonslayer Whirligig pays homage to the legend of St. George and the Dragon. The town of Silene had a dragon living in its lake, and to keep it from eating everyone, they fed it two sheep each day. When that did not suffice, they fed it their children, chosen by lottery. When the lottery chose the King's daughter as the next sacrifice, the king tried to trade all of his riches for someone else's child to take his daughter''s place, but no one agreed. St. George rode past the lake while the daughter awaited her fate. When the dragon appeared, St. George stabbed it with his lance, and placed the belt of the princess around the dragon''s neck. The dragon immediately became docile, and followed the princess like a meek pet on a leash. They led the dragon back into town, and St. George offered to slay the dragon if the townspeople would agree to be baptized. They agreed, and were baptized, and St. George drew his sword "Ascalon," and killed the dragon. St. George is the patron saint of England, and in St. George's honor, Winston Churchill named his personal aircraft Ascalon. Iron whirligig shows St. George making his deadly thrust with Ascalon. Powdercoated for weather durability.

Comments about Product: The colors are good the action is fun to watch. This whirligig does seem to need to be in an area that is somewhat sheltered from gusting wind because the slayer looks like he is really fighting a battle when the wind is strong! lol

Comments about Product: The colors are so vibrant and the piece is well made...LOVE IT!!!
Comments about Product: In just 2 days of normal use, this whirligig began to fall apart. First one of the flames fell off. I tried to glue it back on with gorilla glue. Next the dragon began to lean to one side because one of its back feet disconnected from the wire. This product is just too flimsy to withstand even moderate wind motion. Too bad.
