This is the next best thing to a NWS gauge. This is my second one. The first lasted ten plus years and was still functioning fine but had become difficult to read due to continuous exposure to the elements, particularly the sun.

Be careful when you have to measure amounts greater than one inch that spill over into the larger outside collection cylinder. It is difficult to pour directly into the measuring tube without spilling. I find it useful to pour the overflow into a pitcher with a spout and then pour from the pitcher into the measuring tube.

I keep daily records of the weather; precipitation, temperatures both high and low as well other important facts. I have used a similar rain gauge since the early 80's which I purchased throough The Weather Channel. It was still good when I replaced it with the new one.
