Fans of coin collecting and lovers of beautiful silver jewelry alike will adore this Necklace with Sterling Silver Barber Half Dollar. A genuine United States Barber Half Dollar, minted from 1892-1915, is set in a twisted rope bezel and hangs from an 18-inch sterling silver Italian snake-style chain with a lobster claw clasp. Liberty's face is the focus of the front of the Barber Half Dollar, while a heraldic eagle, based on the Great Seal of the United States, graces the reverse side.
The Half Dollar featured in this silver necklace was designed by Charles E. Barber, Chief Engraver of the United States Bureau of the Mint, and approved by President Benjamin Harrison in November 1891. The task of designing a new dime, quarter and half dollar fell to Barber after a competition opened to the public produced no suitable designs. The Barber Silver Half Dollar is composed of 90 percent silver, which explains why large quantities of Barber coins were melted for bullion when silver prices rose in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
Thankfully, enough of these stunning coins survived to allow us to offer this beautiful Sterling Silver Barber Half Dollar Necklace. A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
