Our Metal and Jute Sailboat Sculpture is a substantial piece of art—more than three feet wide and almost four feet high—that resembles the wireframes used in digital 3D modeling. The boat, its mast and the outlines of the sails are formed from bent metal wire. Artisans then weave jute rope back and forth in geometric patterns to create the body of the sails. When complete, this wall sculpture represents a cutter-style sailing boat, signified by its single mast and two headsails.
For several members of our team, this unusual sailboat sculpture brought to mind "string art" kits that we had in our youth. Nails were driven into a board based on a provided pattern and string was then wound around the nails in specific order to create shapes. While most of our experiences were very 2-dimensional, this sailboat sculpture takes the technique out into the third dimension and incorporates multiple materials. The finished product is a unique piece of nautical art that will dress up your walls and intrigue your guests.
