Although these bookends are beautiful (even more so than the picture), I will be returning them. The description says that these bookends are solid brass. They are not. Instead, they are hollow except for the tissue paper stuffed inside. Perhaps that is why other reviewers mentioned that the bookends are less heavy than expected.

My 9 year-old boy/girl twin grandchildren closely resemble these beautiful sculptures, and they worked odd jobs for a year to purchase them for their mother for Christmas. She home-schools them, and she has instilled in them a love of reading. When she opened the package, her eyes filled with tears. My grandson commented, "See, Grammy, I TOLD you she would cry!!" These are beautiful and meaningful, and they will be forever treasured.

I was looking for a pair of bookmarks which would hold some of my grandson's books. This just hit it. The workmanship and semi-heavy nature of the two pieces are just the right touch. Love the subtle colors. I absolutely adore them and it accomplishes the purpose for which it was purchased.

My husband bought this for me as a Christmas gift and it was one of the most amazing and surprising gifts as it was truly from his heart. I read constantly and this set reminds me of myself and my husband sitting together in harmony. I love the warmth and charm of this set and the attention to detail is amazing.
